Elk Creek Lumber Co. Located in the Appalachian Mountains of north western North Carolina. We are a single location lumber mill with dry kiln facilities. This allows us to draw lumber from one certain area in order to maintain a consistent quality. Our main species in this area is poplar. It is abundant in this area and in my opinion the best quality among all U.S. locations for poplar. As you go north, the poplar is a bit shorter in length, and has a bit darker color. In the south, east and west of our location, the poplar tends to grow longer, but has more dark heart (a purple color) seen throughout. We also specialize in white oak, which also grows nicely in this area. Not quite as long or as white as found in the south, but is much more solid, lending itself to better machining and finishing qualities, without having the deep brown color that is found in the North. We are able to dry a lot of Cherry and whatever other species that you may have needs for, including Red Oak, Ash, Maple, etc. as all are found in this region as well. Weve been export lumber to the Asian market for more than 10 years, with customers in China, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. |
