Guangzhao Industrial Forest Biotechnology Group Limited established since 1999 and listed on the Singapore Exchange on 5 July 2004, the Group is engaged in the production and sale of Guangzhao Fast Growing Poplar, a variety of poplar with fast growing characteristics. Utilising its tissue culturing technology, the Company is able to propagate up to six million poplar seedlings per annum. Guangzhao also researches on various tolerant varieties of poplar, as well as eco-forestry and horticultural products. The Group’s laboratory facilities are based in Jiading District of Shanghai, PRC.
The Guangzhao Fast Growing Poplar can be sold at various stages of growth, from propagated seedlings to grown saplings. Its customers include government authorities or state owned enterprises, undertaking afforestation, reforestation or urban landscaping, and commercial enterprises that manufacture paper pulp or are in the wood processing industries, which cultivate the seedlings and saplings for eventual resale.
In 2002, the Company moved up the value chain to add a third business segment, the cultivation of grown saplings and trees for eventual sale as timber and/or for the manufacture of paper pulp. As at 30 June 2005, Guangzhao has cultivated an estimated 17.7 million trees and saplings for eventual sale as timber in 11 plantation land locations.
For the half year ended 30 June 2005 Guangzhao announced its ending fair value of biological assets increased 88% to RMB 268 million
